In large part the sluggish pace is due to the wide availability of cheap delivery and the lack of easily accessible collection points. Around a fifth of shoppers have used Click and Collect to buy food during the past year and this could be boosted by a Sainsbury’s trial of its Chop Chop service which allows people to buy up to 25 items using an app. The order will be available to collect from their local convenience store within half an hour. 49% of shoppers find this type of service appealing.
57…Following its acquisition late last year of membership-based grocery marketplace Shipt, Target is to begin offering same-day delivery from stores in Alabama and Florida.
The initiative spans 57 stores across both states. Around 50,000 products, including a significant number of fresh foods that weren’t previously available on Target.com, have been uploaded onto Shipt’s app. The retailer expects to be able to offer same-day delivery services at almost all stores before the 2018 holiday season. To support this, Shipt will hire 10,000 new ‘shoppers’, bringing its total to more than 30,000.

2,152…Zara has launched its first Click & Collect concept pop-up store in London’s Westfield Stratford. Measuring 2,152 square foot and featuring a dedicated space for collecting online purchases, while also stocking a selection of pieces from both menswear and womenswear, this will be open until May while the retailer’s flagship store in the centre is being refurbished to double in size.
